The past, present and future spread
Three cards are dealt from a shuffled 78-card deck, each one upright or reversed with even odds. The first card describes what led to the situation, the second where it stands now, and the third where it is heading if nothing changes. The third card is a direction, not a fixed outcome: the point of the spread is to see the pattern while you can still act on it.
How to read the cards together
Start with each card's keywords in its position, then look at the links between them. Several cards of the same suit point to one area of life: Wands to drive and plans, Cups to feelings and relationships, Swords to thoughts and conflict, Pentacles to work, money and the body. Major Arcana cards mark larger themes. A reversed card is read as its meaning blocked, delayed or turned inward.
An example reading
Question: "Why do I feel stuck at work?"
- Past: Five of Cups. Loss and regret: something ended, and you spent time looking at what was gone rather than what was left.
- Present: The Tower reversed. Reversed, The Tower reads as a collapse that keeps being put off: pressure you know about but have not acted on.
- Future: The Star. Hope and renewal: the card points to calm after the disruption, if you let the old structure go.
Read together, the spread suggests the stuck feeling comes from holding on: a loss not yet accepted and a change being delayed, with a calmer stretch on the other side of it. That is one reading; someone else could take the same cards differently, and that is how tarot is meant to be used.
Shorter draws: yes or no tarot and the card of the day. Every card's meaning: tarot.
Questions
✦Is this tarot reading really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no email and no paid upgrade: the deck is shuffled in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere or saved.
✦Is an online tarot reading as good as one with a deck?
The cards are drawn at random either way; what changes is who interprets them. Here you get each card's traditional keywords and a link to its full meaning, and the interpretation is yours. The site does not claim the cards predict anything.
✦What does it mean if most of my cards are reversed?
Each card has an even chance of coming up reversed, so two or three reversals happen often. Readers who use reversals take a spread full of them as a sign that the situation feels stuck or that the question needs to be looked at from the inside.
✦How often should I do a tarot reading?
For the same question, once is enough until something changes. Repeating the draw until it says what you want defeats the purpose. A new question or a new situation is a good reason for a new spread.
